•   Ian Willis and Michael Chandler are Mongrels! Just ask anyone - especially Michaels ex wives.

•  Ian is an outstanding rock and blues guitarist who has played in a number of well known Sydney bands. His career, which spans almost 4 decades, has taken him all over Australia and to England where he played with several major music figures. He is also a respected sound and production engineer with a list of credits which includes Johnny Winter and Toots and the Maytals. Ian worked for many years in the manufacture of professional analogue audio equipment. Do you remember that great sounding stuff?

•  Michael Chandler began performing in Folk clubs in Hobart during the early 1970s and attributes much of his success to the support and encouragement which was given by other performers back then. Michael has played ragtime finger picking and slide guitar styles as Poor Boy Smith for many years and has performed in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney , Newcastle and the Central coast. He still works as an interstate truck driver between gigs and he identifies closely with many of the country songs the duo play.

•  Ian and Michael successfully bring together two opposing schools of guitar playing to create a unique synergy which is both exciting and fresh.

•  To showcase their feel for such a wide range of music Ian and Michael play up to a dozen different guitars each time they perform. In an effort to create the most broad sound pallette possible Ian and Michael combine sounds from 80 year old resophonic guitars, American lap steels from the 1940s and modern electric instruments.

•  Michael also carries on the tradition started by the great 60s and 70s folk clubs where so many great musicians got their start. He has run several open mike nights where people are encouraged to get up and play in a supportive and non judgemental setting. Some great talent has been discovered in open mike settings.

•  The Mongrels are available for bookings anywhere in the world- as long as we can get babysitters for our kids. Michael is also available for solo gigs and Open Mike Nights.

•  Ian was for many years a Professional Audio Consultant and has a wealth of experience in the technical management of venues and sound systems. In recent years this has aided the Mongrels greatly when they were asked to help set up a new music venue. They offer the knowledge & experience of years working in the music industry to anyone in need of some insight into setting up venues and sound systems.
